Silicon Carbide

Silicon carbide is used for the de-oxidation and re-carburetion of cast iron and steel in foundries. It is used in the foundry industry for electric furnace production of gray, ductile, and malleable iron.

SiC is an excellent source of carbon and silicon, promoting nucleation and rendering the iron more responsive to inoculation, deoxidizing the iron, which enhances furnace lining life.

One of SiC advantage over Ferro Silicon is its purity. As an example, the low Aluminum content minimizes the occurrence of Alumina build-up. This is cost effective replacement of Ferro Silicon and carbon raisers.

Silicon carbide powder is excellent raw materials for refractory products. It can increase the compressive strength, thermal erosion resistance, thermal stability, and oxidation resistance of refractory materials. density of these products, as shown in the following figure:
